ומעץ הדעת טוב ורע לא תאכל ממנו כי ביום אכולך ממנו מות תמות
"Oumeetz hadaat tov vara' lo tokhal mimeno ki beyom akhoulerakh mimeno mot tamout"
Gen 2, 17 : "And of the tree of relevant and no-relevant knowledge, thou shall not eat;
because from the day thou shall eat thou shall become mortal."
Some commentaries :
It is forbidden to eat the fruits of one tree. The tree of knowledge, then we got two adjectives in relation to the knowledge.
It's a mistake to make them substantives : the good and the evil.
The terms of Spinoza "adequate and inadequate" are more relevant : the tree of adequate and inadequate knowledge.
The first occurence of the word "tov" is at the fourth verse of chapter one of Genesis :
וירא אלוהים את-האור כי-טוב
"and sees God the light as being adequate."
The word "tov" refers to the light.
The word ra' רע means the evil, the neighbour, the other. Perhaps the taboo is "to eat the other",
to absorb him and to believe that we can know him completly.
If I permute the letters, I get the word ער "ér" which means veut awake.
Perhaps it is the tree of light and awakening! But we can't separate the light from the awakening : by picking the fruit,
Eve separes what can't be separated (the non-manifested abd the manifested) and the human being enters the space-time world and the mortality.
The price to pay for this transgression is to be in duality, separation subject-object.
